EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON ANCHORAGE PERFORMANCE OF WEDGE-BOND TYPE ANCHOR FOR CFRP TENDON

Based on the characteristics of conventional anchorage systems for steel/strands with wedge and bond medium, a wedge-bond type anchor for CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer/Plastics) tendon is presented. The wedge-bond type anchor is comprised from wedge anchorage end and bond anchorage end. Wedge anchorage end includes smooth indented wedges, conical barrel, a plastic film, and an aluminium soft metal sleeve. Bond anchorage end involves steel sleeve and bond medium RPC (Reactive Power Concrete). A series of tests have been conducted to study comparatively the performance of the anchorage system for CFRP tendons for different test parameters including conical barrel length, bonded length, presetting load of the wedges and pretensioning load of CFRP tendon. The test results show that the anchorage system can perform well and the maximum ultimate load of the specimens is 208 kN. The related anchorage efficiency of 104% is more than 95%, satisfying the requirements of provisions. It is demonstrated from the test results that the theoretical solutions developed for predicting ultimate capacity of wedge-bond type anchors for CFRP tendons are feasible.
