Analyses carried out for the Las Colinas landslide induced by the earthquake of 13 January 2001 in Santa Tecla in El Salvador are presented in this paper. A detailed description of antecedent and triggering conditions of this landslide is done. Information used for this analysis comes from direct and published observations. A multi-stage analysis, including (1) pseudo-static analysis, (2) Newmark's displacements analysis and (3) finite elements analysis, was carried out in order to explain the failure mechanism and to define the minimum seismic load required to induce the landslide. Starting from the analysis of this particular case, relevant factors for the slope dynamic response, in El Balsamo Cordillera, were identified and analysed, which led to propose a multivariate statistical relationship between Arias Intensity, Peak Ground Acceleration and Sliding Block Displacements for landslide hazard assessment for the region.
