摘要

Shunt capacitor banks are widely used to provide var compensation and improve the voltage quality in power system. The overvoltage and inrush current due to capacitor switching transient and the harmonic amplification or resonance in steady state may damage the capacitor banks. This paper presents a study of the protection effects on the inrush current with different reactance of the series reactor during various working states of the capacitor banks. An appropriate range of reactance rate is given through simulations using EMTP. A new protection using controllable reactor is discussed in the paper.
