A method about ecological compensation computation of basin's water source areas is proposed based on water environmental capacity, which is in order to use water quality as the way to evaluate the ecological compensation, and to bring it to ecological compensation mechanism of basin's comprehensive management, then to explore a feasible method to compute interregional ecological compensation. The range, standard and roles of ecological compensation are suggested. Taking the Zhangweinan Basin as an example, the compensation computation of several important water source areas was computed. The results show that the upper stream of Zhangwu Reservoir should compensate 4.53×108 Yuan in all, including 1.90×108 Yuan for direct compensation; the lower steam of water source areas of Hebei should compensate 2.82×108 Yuan in all, including 1.90×108 Yuan for direct compensation; the upper stream of Water Source Areas in Hubei province should compensate 3.88×108 Yuan in all, including 1.62×108 Yuan for direct one; The lower stream of Yuecheng Reservoir should compensate 0.31×108 Yuan in all, including 0.13x108 Yuan for direct one; the lower stream of Qingzhang East Water Source Areas in Shanxi should compensate 0.62×108 Yuan in all, including 0.26×108 Yuan for direct compensation.
