摘要

Heavy rainfall is one kind of the important disastrous weather. It has been paid more attention to by meteorologists. The heavy rainfalls in Huai-Yangtze River and in South China have been studied extensively, some scientific problems have been clarified. However, the research about rainfall in West China, especially in Yunnan province near the Plateau, is very limited. In May 2001, record heavy rainfalls since 1949 appeared in Yunnan except its northeast part. During 3 days from 1200UTC 30 May to 1200UTC 2 June, precipitation occurred in Yunnan province, and the maximum of precipitation amount reached 182mm. The analysis has been conducted, it can be seen the strong precipitation was caused by some mesoscale systems under interaction between the northerly cold air and the southerly warm and moisture current, In addition, the source places of moisture are also detected.
