In this study, an attempt was made to see the effect of presence ofrninorganic salts namely, sodium carbonate, sodium chloride and sodiumrnsulphate, and their concentrations on decolouration of acid dyerneffluents by ozonation. Studies have been conducted at alkaline pH onrnsynthetic dye effluents, having a concentration of 500 μM preparedrnusing Acid Black 1 dye. Salt concentrations of 0, 5, 10 and 15 gpl at pHrnvalues of 9 and 11 were used. It was been found that salt content in therneffluent increases the decolouration time of the acid dye effluents,rnwhich increases with increasing salt concentration. Among the salts,rnsodium carbonate required more time than sodium chloride and sodiumrnsulphate. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) was reduced by 52%, 58%rnand 61% whereas Total organic carbon (TOC) was reduced by 28%,rn32%, 33% for the three salts in the effluent, namely sodium carbonate,rnsodium chloride and sodium sulphate respectively.
