~(15)N-lablled tracing technique was used to study the effects of different fertilization patterns on rice yield as well as the characteristics of N uptake and the transformation of N in soil under pot-culture condition. The results showed that with the same amount of N, P and K, totally basal dressing of organic and inorganic fertilizers could promote N partitioning to rice grain and increase the rice yield, and its effect of increasing yield was higher than that of application of chemical fertilizers only. Also it had the benefits of higher N use efficiency, higher N residue in soil, lower N loss, labor-saving etc. High rice yield can be obtained while maintaining the soil fertility with this method. So it is a recommendable fertilization technique.
