Modelling the Effect of Angular Variation of the Optical Properties of a Nematic Liquid Crystal in an LCOS Rear Projection TV System

A model of the liquid crystal director orientation was combined with a non-sequential ray tracing program to compute the reflected intensity from a LCOS device for a rear projection TV system. The performance of the LCOS display was characterised by computing the contrast ratio over a realistic viewing cone.
