We have investigated field emission from a well-aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) film on a SiC single crystal wafer, using cathode ray tube-type lighting elements. The CNT films were prepared by a method involving surface decomposition of the SiC single crystal. A low threshold voltage of 1.5V/μm was achieved by controlling the density of the CNTs, the electroconductive addition to the CNT film and the removal of the CNT caps. The luminance of 100,000 cd/m~2 was obtained using a grid voltage of 2 kV and an anode voltage of 10 kV.
