The UV curable hyperbranched polyurethane acrylate (HUA) was synthesized by modifying the hyperbranched polyester end-capped with hydroxyl groups (HBPE-OH) using urethane monoacrylate. For comparison, the hyperbranched polyester end-capped with saturation group (HPE) was also prepared. The photopolymerization of HUA and HPE together with a commercial product EB600 and properties of their cured blend films were studied. The results showed that a small amount of HUA addition in EB600 improved both tensile strength and elongation at break without damaging its storage modules (E'). The highest tensile strength of 31.9 MPa and around two times of elongation at break of cured pure EB600 film were obtained for the EB600 based film blended with 10% HUA. It's log(E'(MPa)) value was measured to be 9.48, retaining about 98% of that of cured EB600 film.
