The major purposes of this study were to research the needed professional competencies to be a good teacher of industrial vocational high school, and to understand the status and training requirements of the professional competencies of teacher interns at the industrial vocational high school in Taiwan. Based on the review of literature, a list of the needed professional competencies of the teacher intern was first developed. And collect data by the methods of questionnaire surveys. The samples of this study included the director of instruction, the director of guidance, the head of department, and teacher interns of 228 industrial vocational high schools. The return of survey questionnaires included 85 directors of instruction, 79 heads of department, 64 directors of guidance, and 134 teacher interns. The main findings of this study are: (1) Teacher interns at the industrial vocational high school require the competencies of educational professional abilities (9 competencies), teaching abilities (15 competencies), guidance techniques and human relation skills (11 competencies), and management skills (10 competencies). (2) The director of instruction, the director of guidance and the head of department at the industrial vocational high school have same views that the professional competencies of teacher interns are good. (3) All of the teacher interns have same requirement that they still need enhance their professional competencies by education and training continuously. Especially, all of teacher interns express that they very required enhance their abilities how to prevent and deal accident affairs of classroom and shop.
