INTEGRATING PRODUCT DESIGN FOR MODULARITY AND QFD

Product design for modularity provides an approach to reveal the modular structure of complex products. Complex products are decomposed into independent modules. The decomposition aims at minimizing the interactions or interfaces between modules, thus reducing the development time by allowing for parallel development. This paper extends the concept of Design for Modularity to include the concepts of Kano's Model and Quality Function Deployment (QFD). This extension will ensure that customer requirements are being considered in the design process.
