摘要

This talk unlike many of the others you will hear today is not about the wonderful things that I am currently doing, or the amazing projects that are just around the corner. I was invited today to speak to you about a project that I began in 1996 and that continued in various forms well into 2003. In 1986 I began work for the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles. I was hired to put together a research and development group, which would focus on the interface between technology and the visual arts. This group became part of a Getty division, the Art History Information Program and over the course of its 13 year life developed information systems and utilities used by many museums and scholarly intuitions.
