Development of a Wing-In-Surface-Effect Ship for Research Purposes in Cooperation between Vietnam and Japan

A Wing-In-Surface-Effect ship for two persons is now being developed under the VAST(=Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology)project:“Design and Fabrication of an Experimental Model of Ekranoplan in Vietnam ” in cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese in the year 2006 and 2007.Its purpose is research and development of this kind of craft from design,construction,manufacturing and testing. Vietnam is a long and slender country of about 1,800 km long from the north to south.Its east part is looking on the sea.Its traffic network is not enough good to modernize the country.For example they need 29 hours to travel from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City by their train of single track.Construction of high-speed train is difficult by the reason of financial problem.It is also very difficult to have a net-work of high-ways.Airline of the route is too expensive for normal citizens.They need a high-speed method of transportation without a high cost of infrastructure.Wing-In-Surface-Effect ship is a useful method.Vietnamese have studied about ekranoplan many years.A canard type craft was proposed by the Japanese researchers to increase seaworthiness at take-off and alighting because of possible routes on the sea.Vietnamese decided to construct a test craft in corporation with Japanese.The project is now only in its start stage.There will be numbers of problems not only technical but also social or regulation.At the time of the conference we will reach to some practical stage.The authors will present their experience.
