Sediment reduction of soil and water conservation measures in the middle Yellow River was analyzed in the paper. And main content includes aspects: sediment reduction of soil and water conservation measures and water conservancy projects in the middle Yellow River, and the total sediment reduction the middle Yellow River; sediment reduction calculated with "water conservation method" , and sediment reduction in the Loess Plateau. And results indicate that: (1) during the period from 1970 to 1996, annual sediment reduction of soil and water conservation measures in the middle Yellow River is 0.32 billion tons; and annual sediment newly reduction is about 0.21 billion tons. In the same period, annual sediment reduction of soil and water conservation measure and water conservancy projects is about 0.45 billion tons, and newly sediment reduction is about 0.26 billion tons. (2) From 1970-1996, annual sediment reduction in the middle Yellow River calculated with "soil and water conservation method" is about 0.42 billion tons, and the corresponding newly sediment increase is about 0.2465 billion tons. (3) In the same period, annual sediment reduction in the Loess Plateau is about 0.35 billion tons, and annual newly sediment reduction is 0.17 billion tons. The total sediment reduction in the Loess Plateau is about 0.48 billion tons, and annual newly sediment reduction is about 0.22 billion tons. Due to soil and water conservation measures in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, runoff and sediment flows into estuary of Yellow River will have presented decreasing trend in the future, and which will slow the evolution of coastline near to the Yellow River estuary.
