摘要

Welding process is the key technology for the efficient production of thermoplastic composite structures. Ultrasonic welding is one of the potential welding methods due to its very short welding time, neat joint appearance and higher joint strength. However, the molded resin layer can cause the bend and torsion of carbon fiber reinforcement. To avoid this problem an effort was made to ultrasonically weld polyetheretherketone based composites without resin layers and the interface structure was analyzed. Results shows that the spread area is proportion to the welding time, but the composite was damaged greatly when welding time over a certain value. Insufficient fusion bond presents under small welding amplitude, but the carbon fibers in the composite contacting with welding horn will be broke heavily with welding amplitude increasing.
