A Highly Resposive Indica Rice Cultivar Qiuguiai 11 in In Vitro Cultures

General in vitro culture response with the emphasis on high efficient plant regeneration from suspension-cultured cell clusters was described through an Indie rice cultivar Qiuguiai 11. Calluses were induced from mature naked seeds with an induction rate steadily above 90% of the inoeula on a medium containing 2 ,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and proliferated with more than 10-fold on the same medium through each 21-days subculture. Suspension cultures were easily initiated from the proliferated calluses and small cell clusters were produced progressively in two weeks of three liquid subcultures. When these cell clusters were transferred to a medium containing benzyladenine and abscisic acid, numerous adventitious buds were produced and healthy plants grew out upon subsequent culture to a medium containing naphthaleneacetic acid. Results provided here together with those reported previously indicate that Qiuguiai 11 is a highly responsive genotype and could serve as an ideal variety in in vitro studies
