When implementing new information services in information and telecommunication systems, the tasks of increasing the range of IEEE 802.3 u (Fast Ethernet) network interfaces are relevant. The approach to the solution of this problem, which is based on the modernization of the symmetrical cable design, is considered. The feasibility of using U /UTP design and category 5e characteristics in such cables is substantiated. Estimates of the individual components of losses in the metal, dielectric and screen, as well as the total attenuation coefficient are presented.
