User driven products in the context of the ground motion service Germany

Surface motions are caused by various processes, e.g. (abandoned) mining, natural gas extraction, sinkholes, landslides and can cause damage to buildings, infrastructure, affect ecosystems, agriculture and the economic use of the geological underground by influencing the hydro(geo)logical setting. Advanced differential interferometric SAR processing techniques (A-DInSAR), e.g. Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) [1] and Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) [2] are able to measure surface motions with a high precision, a large spatial coverage and a high spatial sampling density compared to terrestrial measurement techniques. In the day-to-day work of responsible public administration in Germany the use of A-DInSAR techniques is not widespread. In order to foster the operational use of this technology a national ground motion service has been set up in Germany. Within the context of this service pilot studies are performed. Two pilot studies are presented here in order to demonstrate application specific A-DInSAR data and their related value-added products.
