The contribution proposes a way to design artificial dielectrics-based devices exploiting inverse scattering based techniques. In particular, the Contrast Source Inversion method is exploited in conjunction with a proper expansion basis for the unknown contrast function to optimally design variable dielectric profile antennas based on properly designed inclusions. Also, a simple fitting procedure is introduced in order to exploit a filling factor shaping rather than different materials. The general approach has been validated for the design of a device emulating the well-known Luneburg lens, but it can be applied to design different kinds of devices.
