Due to the breathtaking economic and political changes both in Europe and in China, inforamtion exchange at all levels is of greater significance than ever before. This information exchange, however, is often handicapped by the langulage barrier between Europeans and the Chinese. It is no easy job to remove this barrier as they belong to completely different langulage families. Moreover, this difficulty is aggravated by the lack of enough qualified teachers of foreigh languages (except those of English and Japanese, perhaps) and the lack of adequate languageenvironments in which to practice them.
