In this study, the adhesive bond-layer failure, as the dominant failure mode in GiR connections, is simulated based on the nonlinear fracture mechanics (NLFM) approach in Abaqus software. The simulations are conducted for two different types of adhesives namely epoxy (EPX) and polyurethane (PUR) and compared with corresponding test results in literature. The predicted load bearing capacity of the joints due the pull-out failure, are compared with corresponding test results in literature and a good agreement between them is observed. A simplified axisymmetric model is also established and shown that it can also accurately describe the behaviour of GiR joints and predict their load bearing capacity with significantly less processing time and computational effort.
