Crane beams are generally formed by welding a channel on the top flange of an I-section. This not only increases the capacity of the compound section to bending about the major axis but also increases its capacity to bending about the weaker axis. This paper explores the possibilities of using an adhesive as connector instead of welding. Two series of compound cross-sections were tested, and the results were compared to the plastic capacity of the compound section.
