The effects of perforation position and shape on the compressive load carrying capacity of cold-formed steel lipped channel sections and FEA models, in conjunction with the modifications proposed to BS and Eurocode buckling design recommendations studied in this research work based on the parametric findings are discussed. For the exact determination, a comprehensive non-linear finite element analysis was performed using ANSYS and the findings from the experimental investigations were used to validate finite element results. The FEA results were compared to their respective test values, resulting in good correlations. It is shown that the ultimate failure load of the lipped channels under compression varies greatly with the perforation position. The proposed modifications facilitate to widen the relevance of the design rules.
