We developed the non-contact measurement method of principal stress distribution on a retinal model for vitreoretinal surgery simulator. The optical measurement was used to detect small deformation on the retinal model surface without impairing the physical properties of the retinal model. The retinal model reproduces Young's modulus of human retina and sclera, respectively. Digital image correlation was used to measure the deformation distribution on the retinal model at subpixel resolution. Principal stress was obtained from the principal strain calculated from deformation and Young’s modulus of the retinal part. We demonstrated the measurement of the distribution of maximum principal stress on the retinal model surface during the pushing by the forceps.
