Protection Ratio Value for Digital Video Broadcasting-Second Generation Terrestrial in the Presence of White Space Device

Television (TV) white space is one of the internet service solutions in rural areas operating without a license, i.e. utilizing TV frequency allocations that are not used. The operation of a white space device (WSD) can cause interference with Digital Video Broadcasting-Second Generation Terrestrial (DVB-T2). To avoid interference with DVB-T2 systems, a protection-ratio (PR) value is needed for the maximum transmission power allowed for WSD. This paper proposes the PR value for DVB-T2 interfered with WSD to complement the FCC standard. We used Monte Carlo analysis in the simulation using Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT). Simulation results show that the higher the DVB-T2 code rate, the higher the value of the PR. In addition, the higher the DVB-T2 modulation, the higher the value of PR.
