Presented here is an overview of a general architecture for a digital signal processor operating system (DSPOS) which is optimized for systems which require continuous uniform sampling of multiple data acquisition channels. This technology can be applied to wide variety of applications including signal monitoring, digital control, digital filtering, and many other 'real world' problems. This timeslicing DSPOS pipelines pre-sample setup,sampling/output,and sample processing into a single timeslice. It also allows for background processes which are completely non-intrusive to the real-time sampling tasks. It is specifically tailored to the unique architectures of DSPs and the applications which they commonly applied. The DSPOS is highly optimized to get the most out the DSP hardware, minimizing the interrupt latency, sample jitter, and operating system overhead.
