This paper shows a single chip design for real time MPEG-2 audio encoder.The chip encodes up to 5.1 (left,right,center,left surround,righ surround,low frequency enhancement) channels with 32kHz,44.1kHz and 48kHz sampling frequency.It is backward compatible with MPE-1 layer 2 audio encoder and supportschannel switching,dynamic crosstalk and phantom coding modes for mutli-channel audio signals.the encoder system has bene designed in VHDL(VHSIC Hardware description Language),developed a sa single chip in a 0.6 um CMOS standard cell,and supports most options described in ISO-IEC 13818-4 MPEG Compliance.Thus this system may be used as an excellent MPEG-2 multi-channel audio encoder applicable to HDTV.
