The finite difference time domain (FDTD) method has been widely used for various electromagnetic analysis. However, when one requires a quite accurate result, a great amount of computer resource is needed, even if the geometry is relatively simple. We introduce a new model for analyzing a dipole antenna by incorporating the quasi-static approximation with the FDTD update equations, since the quasi-static field is considered dominant near the conducting edge. The numerical formulation of the proposed method is presented and the input admittances obtained by this method and by the 1//spl rho/-dependent subcell method are compared with those by the method of moments (MoM), which provides highly accurate results.
