Much effort has recently been made to develop printed millimeter-wave antennas. At these bands, there are many limitations, such as surface wave losses and feeding transmission line loss, in the design of high performance. antennas. For this reason, various suitable antenna elements based on CPW-fed configurations have been proposed. This interest is related to the characteristics of CPW feed-lines: low radiation loss; less dissipation; easy mounting of shunt lumped passive elements or active devices without any need of holes as used in microstrip technology circuits. However, conventional CPW fed microstrip antennas are characterized by the limitation of their bandwidth (1-2%), which is not large enough to cover the demand of future communications systems at millimeter-wave bands. To resolve this situation, a new antenna design is proposed that uses a slot antenna, instead of a patch, as radiation element in order to improve the bandwidth. A novel CPW-fed slot coupled aperture antenna is presented and examined.
