A New Approach to Stakeholder Assessment

Stakeholder approaches have been applied to the management of companies in order toimprove all areas of performance, including economic, health and safety, waste reduction, futurepolicies and strategy, etc. However no agreement exists regarding stakeholders, their interests andlevels of importance. This paper considers stakeholder analysis with particular reference to risk,environmental and waste management systems. It proposes a matrix model for assessing stakeholderroles by rating the stakeholders. A case study demonstrates the use of the matrix and its ability to betransferred to other companies is illustrated using a large multi-national oil company.
