Through studying the highly diverse profile of household and dwelling energy consumption in EU countries, this paper descriptively analyzes the role of electrified heating in the so called fourth generation district heating systems. Then, the paper studies the critical technologies to realize such systems, based on our review on commercial projects and researches in the German market.
