The New Distributed Busbar Protection IED Based on IEC61850

The new technology of IEC61850, Ethernet communication technology and ECT/VT(or OCT/VT) is applied more and more in smart substations in China. However, the conventional distributed busbar protection relay applied the closed hardware design and private protocol, and then it is impossible to adopt the common communication architecture of the smart substation to share the substation information and be compatible with other manufacturers' hardware. The new distributed busbar protection IED applied the MU and ICU as the subunit based on IEC61850 standard. The IED can be applied not only in smart substation, but in the conventional substation as well.
