Voltage dips may shut down the escalators because of the protection setting, which may cause personal hurt or death for the passengers on the stairs. Understanding the voltage dip immunity of escalator is the base of improving the ability against the voltage dips. This paper established an experimental testing platform and implemented a field test and measurement for the voltage dip immunity of a real escalator. Detail experimental procedure are designed with the consideration of operation conditions, voltage dip types and characteristics of voltage dips. With the testing and measurement, a series of voltage tolerance curves (VTCs) have been drawn to present the immunity of escalator. The impact of operation conditions, voltage dip types and point-on-waves on the immunity are given in detail. The testing and measurement results can help to select voltage dip mitigation devices for escalators.
