In this work, we have studied the influence of the gas flow rate on the column length and theelectron density in an argon surface wave sustained discharge at atmospheric pressure. The wavelauncher employed was a surfaguide operating at 2.45 GHz. The discharge was sustained in aquartz tube of 1.5 and 4 mm inner and outer diameter, respectively. The applied microwave powerwas varied between 70 and 300 W for two different gas flow rates: 0.25 and 1.00 slm and lightemitted by the discharge was analyzed using a 1 m focal length Czerny-Turner monochromator.The results obtained can be useful for optimizing the argon plasma as excitation source inchemical analysis.
