For the purpose of optimizing the energy consumption of urban rail transit, a train model that can produce accurate speed profile is badly in need. In this paper, a multi-particle train model is derived and proposed for the energy-efficient train speed profile optimization. Instead of treating a moving train as a mass point, the proposed multi-particle train model takes the train length factor into account. In comparison to the results obtained with mass-point train model, the differences of the multi-particle train model are evaluated in a real-world case study based on the data of Shanghai Metro Line 7.
