To fulfill the diversity of 5G traffic and achieve the high transmission rate, 5G core network adopts Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Network Slicing technologies. However, NFV increases the processing latency. Docker provides the lightweight container and consumes less computing power and memory. Docker is use to build the virtualization platform. To further enhance the packet processing rate, the Intel Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) is adopted. This paper develops a Socket-based media gateway (MGW) and a DPDK-based MGW and evaluates the performance of these two MGWs on the physical and virtualized platforms.
