Hydropower is one of the main sources of energy for the present `power-hungry' growing world. As environment is one of the main considerations and in order to protect the ever-polluting environment, a well developed method is to be adopted and Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA) is a suitable one. This paper presents the application of EIA to the hydropower projects in brief and in dtail in the light of the case study of Tehri dam, which would have been the fifth highest dam in the world, if constructed, rated as the most hazardous dam by ICOL and a frightening illustration of the failure of governance.
