In this paper, the basic concepts and methods of the so called Time/Space Double Series Back Analysis on underground power house complex are presented. The back analysis method is implemented in a C++program. A largest underground hydro-power station in Asia as well as in China and its monitoring instrumentation system are introduced. The stability of the chambers of the powerhouse complex is studied by using the numerical back analysis program combined with a non-linear FEM stress analysis program NAPARM 96. Results of the numerical back analysis are compared with the monitoring data, and show a good coincidence. Some suggestions to the stability of the underground openings are also given.
