Maximizing the profit of hydro generation when taking into account the extra costs of co-generation with thermal power

The previously sheltered Norwegian hydro electric system is growing into 'mixed' generation with thermal plants in other European countries. Hydro plants doing extensive load regulation will experience extra wear and tear, and they will produce less energy than if they were operating at steady base load. An increasing number of Norwegian hydro plants will deliver regulation services, and that will require technical changes, some new equipment, and alterations of the organisation for operation and maintenance to maintain the profitability and safety level.
