This paper will focus on hydropower capacity utilization with respect to transmission grid capacity, losses and market situation. New hydropower capacity can be built in different watercourses and the influence of transmission grid losses and restrictions on the benefit of new capacity in different areas of the conutry will be found by system simulations. Power system simulations will be performed with the newly developed Energy and Power Flow model. This model is an integration of the well known and widely used PPower Poll Model, and routines for load-flow analysis. This is the nost comprehensive model for power system simulations in Norway today. Simulation results gives new insight to the interaction between hydropower production system, market utilization and main grid losses and restrictions.
