Weir construction as environmental mitigation in Norwegian hydropower schemes

This paper desribes weirs as a mitigation measure in rivers regulated for hydropower production. weirs are often considered in combination with release of minimum flows, and are intended to enhance the aquatic biota and to form a significant and positive element in the landscape. We specifically focus on weirs from a manager's pint of view, and discuss where, when and how to build weirs in a regulated watercourse.
