A Digital Pathway to Having Authentic Food and Cultural Experiences While Traveling in a Foreign Country

Food is important and essential to understanding and appreciating the culture, heritage, and people of a region. Recipes and cooking techniques are passed down from generation to generation. Some dishes tell the story of a nation, while others are specific to a region. However, unfamiliar geography, language, and customs may make it difficult for tourists to find and enjoy truly authentic local cuisine. In this paper, I present a solution: a platform I designed called Locavores. It connects tourists wanting authentic food and cultural experiences with locals who also want to learn about different cultures. Together, they meet, share a meal, and exchange information about each other's culture, and maybe make a new friend.
