Advancements in Electrical Machines Design Brought by the Modular Construction

In the last years, the developments in the field of electrical machines are speeding up more and more to keep in line with the rapid industrial advancements and fast growing requirements. The most emerging targets of the electrical machines designers are cost reductions, efficiency and reliability improvements, etc. One of the approaches to achieve these is the modular construction of the electrical machines. In the paper a survey is made on the progresses brought by this approach in the field of electrical machines. Also, some typical examples of the modular construction possibilities of some electrical machines are included.
