摘要

Evaluating students in a semester examination and assigning them grades or marks is a debatable topic. In this paper, we discuss relative merits and demerits of grading and absolute marking systems. In grading, the ranges can be either predefined or variable. We propose an algorithm for dynamically computing the grade ranges. We evaluate different types of grading systems on the basis of inflation or deflation of marks. We suggest to use a scheme that is hybrid of the absolute marking system and the grading system for enhancement of the fairness in evaluating the performance of students.
