The behavior of hot gas is investigated experimentally during short circuit current interruptions. The hot gas is found to exhaust in an oblique direction to the axis. The distribution of the pressure inside the exhaust chamber indicates a peak along the axial direction. Increase of the interrupting current results in increase of the pressure in exhaust chember and consequently clogging of the exit. Under this condition, the distribution of the density becomes flat and the gas near the fixed conducting contact becomes conductive.
