Spectroscopic Investigation of the Cathode Flare Plasma in Vacuum Arc

The investigation of this paper is related to spectro-scopic measuremdents in the cathode flare plasma in vacuum arc on Mg cathode with a current of 100 A and pulse duration of 150 s. Information on the directed velocities of the heavy particles (ions and neutrals) has been obtained from measuring the Doppler shift and broadening of the spectral lines. Electron density in the cathode flare has been estimated from the collisional broadening of the lines. The experimental data obtained support the potential hump model for treating the mechanism of fast ion generation.
