The vapor shield; formed by the ablation of materials in plasma-driven launchers, absorbs a large fraction of the incoming energy and reduces the surface erosion. Enegy transport through the vapor shield may result in further reduction of surface erosion~(1). Applying a strong magnetic field parallel to the surface (magnetic vapor shield) is a possible approach to enhance the vapor shield mechanism. The applied magnetic field is used to investigate the fundamental mechanism of energy transport through the pasma region, near the railgun wall surface. The concept of the plasma boundary layer is introduced briefly, and the mechanism of arfc controlling with a magnetic field is analyzed in this paper.
