The Problem of Choice of Electrical Contacts

The process of designing electrical contacts is complex. A great many design parameters may be varied independently, and the balance between cost and quality is oftne a matter of trial and error. This paper describes weighted-correlation method whereby the design of a contact may be identified. The dependence of the performance on each of a large number of separate criteria is observed. The concepts of "usefulness" and "compromise usefulness" are introduced. An example is given in the selection of the design of a electrical contacts and ranking list of contacts is presented.
