An Investigation of Homesickness among Peasant Workers in China

Front-line workers in Chinese construction industry are mainly comprised of peasant workers who are peasants flowing into cities. Homesickness is popular among peasant workers in Chinese construction industry. This article attempts to investigate comprehensive picture of homesickness in the peasant workers, to explore the factors of influencing homesickness, and to distinguish the associations between homesickness and work performance of peasant workers. One hundred and fifty male peasant workers attended the completed a set of questionnaires on the three construction sites in Harbin,China. Results indicate that homesickness is a significant factor to construction activities in China. Discussion includes implication for management, research limitations and future work.
